Some Common But Surprising Sweating Causes

E-mail Print PDF
Sweat ProblemsIf you think you perspire more than normal, you may just be imagining things. Some people think they perspire more than others but in reality they're just more aware of the problem or more self-conscious about sweating. Everyone sweats and humans actually sweat all the time, but the perspiration evaporates quickly in the air so you rarely notice it. But for those who do perspire more than normal, there are some common and surprising sweating causes that you might want to consider. That's because some of these are harmless in of themselves whereas other sweating causes mean that you should be under the care of a doctor to ensure your health.

Fat Metabolism

One of these common but surprising sweating causes is a high or fast metabolism. When your metabolism runs faster than normal this means that your heart is beating faster than normal, which also means that your body temperature is higher than average. This increase in body temperature means that you'll probably sweat more than average in order to maintain or cool that temperature. While this is one of the more common sweating causes it's also relatively harmless and actually quite healthy, since a high metabolism means you're burning calories more efficiently than others.

Common Causes of Sweating

Other common sweating causes include high blood pressure, diabetes, and menopause or hormonal imbalances. There are many reasons why these conditions would cause excessive sweating but usually they affect the body's internal thermostat, which in turn causes a higher body temperature than normal. Most common sweating causes have something to do with an increased heart rate or with the body's internal thermostat being affected this way. If you do sweat more than normal, even because of any of these conditions, that's not necessarily a problem in of itself but of course you should be under a doctor's care if you have high blood pressure, are diabetic, or are going through menopause or have other hormonal imbalances. These common sweating causes can be serious health concerns if left unchecked, so you may want to consider the sweating itself as just a symptom of something that deserves your attention.

Obesity Causes Sweating

Of course not all sweating causes have to do with health. Often a person's environment or even what they're wearing can make them sweat more than normal and yet people often dismiss minor factors like the clothes they're wearing or the temperature of their office. Another of these common sweating causes is obesity or being overweight, since body fat is a good insulator and traps in body heat. Even an extra twenty pounds of body weight can make a person sweat profusely, and according to most statistics the majority of adults in the U.S. are at least twenty pounds overweight. No one wants to be told that they're overweight or that they're causing their own perspiration problems, but this is one of those sweating causes that should be considered and addressed. Think seriously if any of these factors we've mentioned might be the cause of your own excessive sweating.
