How You Can Stop Sweating

E-mail Print PDF
excessive perspirationAre you interested in learning how to stop sweating? It's actually a difficult subject because humans sweat all the time, even in winter, but don't always notice it since perspiration evaporates so quickly in the air. Those who don't sweat have serious health concerns and are at great risk for heat stroke and other physical problems. So when we talk about learning how to stop sweating, we're not talking about no perspiration, ever. This simply means addressing a perspiration problem that's embarrassing or that seems to be worse than normal.

Perspiration Problems

Usually those with perspiration problems have a higher than normal body temperature. This might be due to a physical concern such as a hormonal imbalance, a thyroid or other gland problem, or from being overweight. While some health concerns are just going to cause perspiration, you can stop sweating if you watch your weight and get that under control. Even an extra twenty pounds of body fat can keep body heat inside, causing excess perspiration in the back and legs. While losing weight may be a difficult concept for some to consider, if it means being able to stop sweating it's well worth it. Being overweight and obese is bad for you in many respects and the perspiration is just one of them! So it's well worth it to be mindful of your body weight.

Prescription Strength Products

There are many prescription strength products you might want to try that will also help you to stop sweating. Your doctor can recommend Drysol or a stronger antiperspirant that's not available just at your pharmacy. These usually come in cream or gel forms so that they can be used just about anywhere on the body. Those who have a hard time with perspiration on the hands or feet often find that they do wonders to stop sweating in those areas.

Simple Tricks to Stop Sweating

Don't forget the simple tricks that help many people to stop sweating as well; this may include increasing the air circulation in your home or office and sipping cool beverages or sucking on ice chips. Avoid alcohol as this causes blood to rush to the skin's surface, making you warm. Most body heat escapes through the head so be sure you give it a clear path; this means cutting your hair short or adding layers if it's very thick, or wearing it up off your neck. This may seem like a basic idea in order to stop sweating but thick hair is like wearing a hat on your head; it keeps heat trapped inside your body so that your body temperature goes up and you perspire.

Consult A Doctor

If you try all these things to stop sweating and still think you have a serious problem, see a doctor. There are some health concerns that are connected to excessive perspiration and while some are relatively minor, others should be checked out by a physician. Rather than just being concerned with how to stop sweating remember that you should be concerned with your health overall.
