Sometimes they will go away on their own and sometimes they are just minor annoyances, but understanding the various causes of morning headaches can be a big help in getting rid of them. Morning Headaches
So what are some common causes of morning headaches? There are many causes of course but usually the boil down to just a few simple root causes. One is excessive and loud snoring. Since snoring rattles the entire head this can be very irritating to the muscles and nerves that surround the head and neck and thus cause morning headaches. When a person snores they usually have their head and neck out of alignment which causes the jaw to fall open so they then breathe through their mouth rather than their nose. This misalignment is a common cause not only of snoring but also of morning headaches as it causes the muscles to tense up and work overtime to keep the head and neck supported. So if you snore and have headaches as well, it's time to address the snoring and see if that doesn't take care of the pain in the head.
Sleep Apnea
Sleep apnea is another common cause of morning headaches. This is a condition where a person stops breathing during the night for just a few moments. It might not sound like much but when the body is starved of oxygen on a regular basis like this, the brain and the nerves surrounding it can actually suffer. Additionally, someone that has sleep apnea will have their sleep patterns interrupted as the body will wake itself up just enough to start breathing again. A constant lack of deep sleep can cause morning headaches as well as fatigue, daytime drowsiness, and a host of other health problems and concerns. Sleep apnea is actually a very serious condition that should be addressed by a doctor as in extreme cases a person may not be able to wake up long enough to start breathing again and some have actually died due to this problem. So if you have morning headaches you may need to see your doctor to find out if you have sleep apnea as well.
Poor Quality Mattress
Be mindful of your sleeping environment if you get morning headaches. A bedroom that's too dry can cause breathing problems and a poor quality mattress can cause the back and leg muscles to cramp up causing pain all up and down the backside. These relatively minor problems can cause morning headaches as well. So be mindful of your sleep habits and your bedroom's environment; if you are careful of these things and make a few minor adjustments your headaches might just go away.
