Pain Triggers
For one thing, you may need to think seriously about your pain triggers. If you get tension headaches, what causes that tension? You may not be able to quit your job or stop talking to certain family members, but sometimes a slight adjustment in your attitude and thinking can help to prevent headaches. Consciously tell yourself that you won't take your boss' insulting comments seriously and that your father is just a difficult person overall; if you can remind yourself of how these things have nothing to do with you then you can in some cases prevent headaches from coming on every time you speak to this person. Or if you have specific worries that give you a headache such as your financial situation or problems within your immediate family, consider taking some time to sit down and work up a plan for improving those things. Make a reasonable budget and live within it so you're not so worried about your finances. See a family counselor if necessary. Sometimes just working on the problems can help to prevent headaches even if the problem doesn't go away as you feel less helpless and more in charge of your life and your circumstances.
Preventing Headaches
Very often the smallest things you do to take care of yourself, or the things you neglect to do, can help to either cause or prevent headaches. For example a lack of sleep is often connected with morning and daytime headaches, so getting adequate sleep every single night is important. Blood sugar fluctuations can also cause headaches so you may want to consider your diet and make sure you're eating regularly but not overeating either. Taking care of yourself in these small ways can help tremendously to prevent headaches on an everyday basis.
Exercising Regularly
You can also help to prevent headaches that are tension related by taking care of yourself as well. Exercising regular is great for relieving tension; this doesn't necessarily mean only in a gym but can include riding a bike, hiking, playing sports, swimming, and so on. Being physically active can loosen and flex tense and tight muscles and get the blood circulating. It can help to prevent headaches by also loosening the muscles of the neck and shoulders as well.
Simple Tips and Tricks
Try these simple tips and tricks and see if they don't help to prevent headaches as well in your own particular case. You might still get the occasional headache but if you take care of yourself and address tense situations, you can probably reduce the number of headaches you do get.
