What to Do When You Have Profuse Sweating

E-mail Print PDF
Everybody sweats and of course during the warm summer months or when working in a hot environment people do sweat more than normal. While perspiration is very normal, sometimes profuse sweating can be the sign of something more serious such as elevated blood pressure, heart disease, a hormonal imbalance or a problem with the thyroid gland. Some who have a faster metabolism will also have profuse sweating since this metabolism rate also elevates the heart rate as well. When the heart is beating faster or harder than normal this increases body temperature as blood circulation also means a circulation in body heat. Higher metabolism means that you're burning calories more efficiently so in this case, the profuse sweating you experience is a small price to pay for managing your weight and having a healthy heart and set of lungs. Usually for people in this situation, controlling the outside environment can help. Fans, ice, cooling packs, and things like these can go a long way toward lowering that body temperature and toward keeping one cool. But for others, what can you do about profuse sweating?
