Blood Pressure Drugs
There are four classes of drugs that are normally given, also known as "ABCD". These are:
- ACE inhibitors,
- beta blockers,
- calcium channel blockers and
- diuretics.
Side Effects
Although the side-effects are irritating they are rarely life threatening.
- ACE inhibitors are well known for the persistent dry cough that they cause.
- Beta blockers are banned in the UK for treating high blood pressure because they can cause Type II diabetes, as well as insomnia and cold hands.
- Calcium channel blockers typically cause headaches and constipation.
- Diuretics can make you feel weak and tired and even cause gout
How To Minimize The Side Effects
As well as different brands, your doctor will try varying pairs of "ABCD" in an effort to minimize the side effects, but ultimately the side effects will still be present and can never be relieved entirely.
The best way to minimize them is to avoid taking the prescribed drugs and follow natural methods.
Natural Methods
Unless you a part of the group who have extremely high blood pressure and are in danger of dying within months if they don't get their b.p. back under control quickly, you are in a position to rely on natural methods, i.e. monitoring your diet, your stress and a few other factors.
It is much easier than you may expect - for example, a couple of the right dietary supplements may be all that is required to get you back into the healthy zone.
