If you don't have much of an outdoor space you may have assumed that it's just out of the question for you to have a greenhouse, but that's just not the case! There are many options available when it comes to a small greenhouse, and we're talking about those structures that are just as beautiful and functional as the ones big enough to park a plane in. As a matter of fact some have found that they can grow all the plants and vegetables they need in a small greenhouse and even prefer something that takes less maintenance and less space.
Small Greenhouse to Lean-to Greenhouse
One option for a small greenhouse would be a lean-to greenhouse which is something like half of a greenhouse; it's meant to attach to the exterior wall of your home, garage, or even a tool shed. Some of these structures are as small as a typical hallway whereas others are large enough to fit an entire outside wall and function as something of a sunroom or extra sitting room. There are custom-made lean-to greenhouses that are designed specifically for your own home, but most work as a great option for a small greenhouse because they are independent and come in a kit. A lean-to greenhouse is usually much more affordable than another model because they come with that one less wall than other structures, so you're paying for less material. But their real appeal is the size. Since they're usually long and narrow, they fit much better in a tiny yard than a small greenhouse that is square and takes up a much larger footprint. Many are also just tall enough for someone to walk into so they're more efficient to operate and maintain as well.
Build a Commercial-type Structure
If you're not set on a lean-to greenhouse you do have many other options. Most greenhouse manufacturers realize that not everyone has acres and acres of land on which to build a commercial-type structure, so they offer many options by way of a small greenhouse. Some typical models are not more than six feet by four feet. This gives you just enough room to add some shelves along one side wall and one back wall and to move around comfortably inside. You might not be able to put some comfortable lawn chairs inside and treat your small greenhouse like a sunroom if that's what you were considering, but a structure of this size gives you plenty of room in which to grow all the plants and vegetables you want.
Available Sizes of Greenhouses
When in the market for a small greenhouse you might want to consider the different sizes available and then mark off that area in your yard to see how comfortable you would be. Remember you'll need shelves for your plants so it will be more crowded than you might imagine; mark off the area for your shelves inside as well to get a real feeling for the inside of your small greenhouse and whether it's the right size for you.
