You Can Quit Smoking for Good!

E-mail Print PDF
Have you lost hope that you can quit smoking for good? Sadly, many people have tried quitting several times and have failed. They may have stopped for a few hours, a day or even a week but eventually went back to the habit. To quit smoking for good is a difficult task. And herein lies the challenge. Are you up to it? Let’s look closer into what the successful quitters did to win the battle. They may have some secrets that you missed and uncovering those secrets might put you on the road to becoming a nonsmoker permanently.

Throw Away Your Stash of Ciggies

First of all, to quit smoking for good you have to condition yourself mentally that you are in it for the long haul. So throw away all your cigarettes, lighters and ashtrays and do not store any for an “emergency”. Keeping a stash of them leaves room for you to slip up and get back into the habit of smoking. If you are really determined to quit smoking for good, there’s no reason to stack a supply for “just in case” moments. A true nonsmoker doesn’t have them so you shouldn’t either. Decide to quit once and for all; there’s no turning back.

Completely New Beginning

Another helpful way to quit smoking for good is to give your home a completely new beginning and get rid of the smell of cigarette smoke. To achieve this, you can do the following inside your house:
  • Wash all your clothes, linens and curtains
  • Steam clean your carpets
  • Clean all furniture thoroughly with soap and water
  • Clean both the inside and outside window
  • Empty your closets and wipe out the smell of smoke before putting back your newly washed clothes
The same holds for your car. You will find it hard to quit smoking for good if your car smells of smoke each time you go in. The smell alone will trigger cravings to smoke.

Epsom Salt Bath

Indulge in an Epsom salt bath to cleanse your system of tar and nicotine and wash your skin of impurities. And go to a dentist to have your teeth cleaned as well. Getting rid of the smell and taste of smoke will help you quit smoking for good.

Lifestyle changes

Lifestyle changes may be in order if you want to quit smoking for good. Identify situations and conditions that make you want to light a cigarette. Then do something to avoid them. If watching dvd’s sets off your craving, hold them off temporarily. Do you need a smoke when you’re tense or angry? Practice deep breathing. The favorite bar you usually hang out in with your friends may have a smoke-filled atmosphere. Look for another place to go to.

Tell About Your Plan

Tell your family and friends about your plan to quit smoking for good. They can be there for you when you feel down. Ask them to throw their support around you by not smoking themselves or by not offering you any.

Following these suggestions diligently can help you become a nonsmoker for life.
